We have an 8 year old!

That’s right our oldest is 8!  If it’s hard for you to believe, believe you me, we are floored!

He loves to camp for his birthday.  This year we stayed close to home but still had a blast.  We spent 3 days and 2 nights in the mountains to the south of us.  We fished, hiked, sat by the fire, enjoyed a friends surprise visit, etc. Read the rest of this entry »

First Eggs

This weekend we were surprised to find four small eggs on the floor of the coop. We weren’t expecting the hens to start laying for about another month. Needless to say we were very excited. We had them for breakfast on Sunday morning. 😀 Since I had yet to finish the nest boxes I had another project to complete this weekend. Now we’ll have to wait and see if they use them.

Independence Day

This morning the kids both took part in the Reach Charity fun run. It started at 8am so we were scrambling to get there on time. Still we just missed the start of the race so the kids started about a minute later than most. They both ran hard and managed to catch and pass some of the stragglers. Afterward we came home and got ready to head down to Ennis for their annual 4th of July Rodeo. We all had a lot of fun especially the kids. There’s something different about Independence Day in a small western town, it was nice. When we got home Joy and I were pretty whipped so we decided against going to the fairgrounds for the fireworks show. We made a campfire in the backyard, roasted marshmallows and enjoyed the ubiquitous neighborhood fireworks. It was nice to just relax after a busy day and remember how blessed we are.

I just returned from visiting my mother in Anchorage. Alaska is amazing, I had a wonderful time site seeing and fishing at the Kulick Lodge. I brought home my limit of King Salmon for the freezer and caught lots of Rainbows and Chars. My Mom is becoming quite the fisherman too, it was fun watching her land so many fish. Alaska’s famous brown bears visited us on the rivers several times, that was both exciting and a bit nerve wracking. We drove out to Whittier one day, the scenery was incredible and the tunnel was pretty cool too. We also had dinner at the Brewhouse in Anchorage, good food and good beer. 🙂 The trip went by too fast, but it was nice to get home to Joy and the kids.
