Our winter weather finally relented and it’s been a beautiful fall weekend. Yesterday I was able to get all our hoses, lawn furniture etc put away and today we’re finally harvesting our potatoes, carrots and onions. The kids were a big help and it was fun watching how excited they got with each new cache of potatoes. Since we were clearing out the garden I decided it was time to open the gate and let the chickens in too. They were scratching for worms, rolling in the dirt and having a ball. We were worried that we’d waited too long on the remaining crops and that we had lost them. However everything seems to be fine. I think the snow must have insulated them from the extremely cold temps we had last weekend.
The tally was: 105 lbs potatoes, 41 lbs carrots, 22 lbs onions. We were very fortunate.
We’ve all been fighting various colds and flu’s for the past several weeks. I finally relented and went to the doctor for my sinus infection and I’m starting to feel like myself again. Today our boy has not been feeling well and we could see it on his face but he still worked hard with us out in the garden. Joy took his temp when we finished up and he’s running a low fever. This will be his second bout of cold/flu in the past two weeks. We’ll have to keep and close eye on him. Your prayers would be welcome.
